On September 18-19 the KAIROS project organized the second Biannual Meeting at the Unisphere headquarters in Konstanz, Germany. Two days of productive discussions and collaboration that worked as a fantastic opportunity to connect and push forward a common vision for the next stages of the project.
The first day was focused on aligning the administrative tasks of the project for the next semester and reviewing the main communication and dissemination achievements of the KAIROS project.
The agenda for the second day was dedicated to sharing the progress made in the technical work packages of the project and discussing the next steps. The team dove deep into critical research questions such as what data is available for AI model development or what spatial-temporal resolution is needed for optimal results.
A key focus of the meeting was on outlining the necessary steps to validate the AI models being developed. This validation process, which will involve collaboration among the main aviation stakeholders, is slated to unfold over the course of the next year and marks a pivotal phase in the project’s results.
Before the project team's departure, Swiss Airlines and Zurich Airport, two key KAIROS stakeholders, organized a behind-the-scenes tour of Zurich Airport and MeteoSwiss offices. This experience offered the consortium a unique glimpse into the daily operations and workflows at one of Europe’s busiest airports, enriching the participants' understanding of the industry’s practical weather challenges.
A special thanks goes to Unisphere for their excellent organization of the meeting. We look forward to reconvening with the team in February!
